Clothing trends in high school.......?

i am participating in a Big brother, Big sister program associated with the local public school system, and the "little sister" that i am mentoring is a freshman in highschool.

i would say that she dresses pretty cute for her age, which is 14 years old. on a normal day, she wears nice jeans, layers a couple fitted t-shirts, ballet flats, cute headband, and she likes to accesorise with cute necklaces and bracelets. she likes to wear bright colors, always has her hair in a cute style, and is all around pretty girly. but lately, this past week specifically, she has changed her whole look very abruptly. every day this week she was wearing ALL black, heavy black eyeliner, and her hair was down and very messy. the first time i just thought that it was for fun, but the next day she had temporary tattoos of skulls and crossbones on her wrists, black lipstick, and this black eyeshadow smudged all around her eyes. is this a new trend in highschools? i am just curious!

and i am not old, i am 20

It's definitely not a NEW trend. It was around when I was in school and I'm sure when you were too.

It is a way of getting attention, usually just a phase kids go through, and the more others try to change her... it will convince her she has made the right choice because she is now getting what she wanted... more attention.

Try keeping her involved in positive things she always enjoyed, compliment her on anything she does that is positive, and try to ignore the goth style the best you can. Let her go on and express herself. If people don't give her the shocked reaction she is looking for, she may tire of it quickly.

If her friends are all doing it right now, she will think it is the *best thing ever*, so don't ruin the great relationship you have by trying to change her.

BTW I admire what you are doing to help kids!

oh uh she's turning to the dark side... jk, yeah, it's a trend, it's called goth or emo, im not very fond of it myself...

Clothing trends in high school.......?

It's not a new trend, it's the goth look. She's probably starving for attention, adn so she's dressing out. the layered look, however, is the trend. I'd try and see how her friends are dressing---if she had a falling out with a close friend, she may have switched groups--leading to the fashion nightmare.

Clothing trends in high school.......?

she sounds like a twat no 1 should go emo nor gothic

it suits NO ONE

Clothing trends in high school.......?

hello she is dressing emo uor goth black eyeliner and fake skull tatoos thats not cool she is trying to be either goth or emo

Clothing trends in high school.......?

try to get her out of this...I'm a Junior in high school, and most people like that, end up getting in to more trouble. unless her way wasn't making her happy trying to impress people that she is sick of trying to impress...either way, keep an eye on her.

Something has turned this girl around... ask her. She's either hanging out with a different group of kids, has gotten a crush on a heavy metal rock band, or for some reason has a desire to be noticed. Start talking to her... it's ok to ask her why. And, hey, what you're doing to help out a young teen... That's a great thing!!

Clothing trends in high school.......?

No, there's no such thing as a trend in high school. Everybody basically has her own style. The style your little sister may be going for is either Emo or Goth. Ask her why she changed her style so quickly because I really liked the sound of the older one!

Clothing trends in high school.......?

it's not a new trend actually.. it was there for years...

+so what if the girl changed? i went through the same phase in 8th grade and was there for 2 and a half years... one day i just decided "hey i'm tired of looking the same as everyone else..so tomorrow i'm wearing black".. believe me at that time i was gullible and people took advantage of that..and i was laughed at and was treated as a nerd.. so one day i said "enough is enough" and i was tired of being a doormat.. so i just decided to change my style.. cause goth is "scary"..and it worked..people didn't make fun of me anymore..they were scared (stupid) but t'was much better than being the nerd.

other people either do it because they want to be "goth" or because they want to be differant..

+don't worry about the girl...if she's differant...let her be.. there are plenty of "popular goths" at my school... in middle school people are stupid and ask you if "you're a goth".. in that case you're an outcast.. the fact that your sister wears black doesn't mean that she changed her personallity.. if her friends know her well, they'll know she's the same "cute person" she used to be.

so no she's not going through a "dark phase"..black doesn't make you depressed...it's just a fassion statement.. fassion does not change feelings.

Clothing trends in high school.......?

yea its a trend and a stupid one. ask her why she is doing this and tell her she looked great before and (maybe even) tell her to knock it off or go to her parents and ask them if something has happened to make her withdraw for everyone

Talk to her. This look is usually associated with people into drugs and with other problems like that. This isn't good...she may have gotten herself a boyfriend that's like this, which could also lead to some problems I'm sure you can speculate...hint. I'd sit her down and just talk to her about what her friends are wearing, and since you're her "sister", maybe plan something where you can get together with all her friends and have a little party or sleepover or something; just to get some insight into what she's gotten herself into. But try to get her out of this; even teachers and admisistrators shun this, she could ruin a reputation she may have taken a while to build up. The clothes you first described her to be wearing are the ones in "style" at my school, so just try to see what's going on with her. Good luck to the both of you. :)

well im at that age too, 14.

i dress pretty too like with ballet flats and headbands and accesorise with different necklaces and stuff -its called beeing preppy %26amp; dressing preppy.

and i have days when i dress really dark and black eyeliner and stuff.

its just my mood. clothes are supposed to represent moods. so maybe she's feeling sad or something. try talking to her.

but if she's trying to go all "emo" its stupid cuz that style is so annoying and plus its not even nice %26amp; cool to be emo.

i'm in 10th grade, she's probably just going through a phase, you know trying to find her self. hah kinda cheesy sounding but i mean everybody does change eventually. just tell her to be herself and be comfortable with who she is
