I went to a salon and showed the style I was looking for. i also stated my hair needs to stay long but i would like layers as in the photo. I said no more then an inch or two was to be cut for the main length. After draping the black cover over me- I have dark black hair, she proceeded to tell me it may seem like she is cutting off a lot but it is just the layers. My original hair length was past the bra line in back. She cut a very thin layer to just under the shoulder line.Then the rest of the hair was cut to just my shoulders. Nothing like the picture and she had it all poofed up so i asumed the length just looked shorter because of that. She asked if i liked it at the end and since i was holding back tears and did not want to cry in front of all those people I simply said "I just hope my husband does" %26amp; quickly handed her money and said not to worry about the change. I just wanted out before the tears started. Now it has been a week %26amp; I am stil upset. Ponytails are all I can do now

Fisrt of all never go back there again. Um what else well I have long hair and I would cry too if it got chopped off. I feel bad for you. You could pull half up half down maybe. You could do pig tails or a braid. I wouldn't sue just get your money back and I hope you didn/t give her a tip. Show her the picture and ask how much your hair looks like the picture. Maybe then she'll understand what a ginormous mistake she bad.

I feel sorry for you. You could also get hair growth stuff or vitamins that make your hair grow faster.

you shouldnt of payed and asked to see the manager.

if you have payed and infact by saying keep the change you offered a tip its like you are happy with the style.

i wouldnt go back to that salon again.

im training to be a hairdresser and if i did that i would hate myself.

ok hair at ur shoulders is long.. well its not short anyway and if the lengths are different, that means that there ar layers. And if you dont like it that much, I wouldn't sue, I would jusr ask for ur money bak Go jag cheer~~!

you can't sue. you needed to speak up and should have stopped her while she was cutting it the wrong way, and not paid for something you didn't want. im so sorry for your experience and i really hope you can find someone who can help you.

I asked for highlights once and my hair ended up white with a zig zag of brown at the back! I was mortified, but like you I paid and left. I was so upset, I looked stupid. After a few days i phoned the manager up and told him I was disgusted with the lack of professionalism his stylist showed me (his stylist was in a rush and didnt even apply toner to my hair!) He couldnt apologise enough and offered to put my hair right and give me a full refund.

I was happy with that.

Now if Id had too much cut off, I wouldnt be so bothered because it can grow back, but you should at least get your money back. Give them a call and ask for a refund.

besides, to the person that cut your hair and the shop, you paid and tipped like a satisfied customer.

you should have spoken up. just because you were too sheepish, does NOT mean you can sue.

I don't know if you should sue, because it will cost you much more than a haircut to sue the salon. The great thing about hair is that it grows. In the meantime, if you really hate the style and length, purchase a nice wig in a long length in your color for about $50 from Beautytrends.com and wear the wig until your hair starts to grow. What you can do also is go to the salon and complain to the owner and state your case telling her you had a photo and you were very specific in your instructions to the hairdresser. Ask for a refund or your next haircut should be free. They may try to make amends and give you a refund or a free haircut.

Otherwise, ask around to your friends for a great hairstylist. Great hairstylists are in every town in the U.S. You may have to pay somewhat more, but you will be in good hands. A tip: while the hairdresser is cutting, ask them to stop so you can view the length, and if it seems they are going too far, stop them right there and tell them that they cut enough. That is what I do...but I have a great hairdresser that listens to me and I wouldn't change her for the world. Good Luck and don't be upset...it's only hair and not life and death. We've all experienced what you have gone through so take heart and be more aware next time.

Unfortuneately it is highly unlikely that any judge is going to award you anything but the fees for the haircut and court fees. Perhaps you should just shrug it off and realize that it's something you can grow out and replace. I am 53 and can't tell you how many bad haircuts I've had but now I have to go to a new shop I sit and watch them cut hair. Do remember that salons are one place where money means something because it is a matter of talent and education. So if you want to specific and can't have anything else then go to a more expensive salon. One place you can get some satisfaction is the better business bureau. tell them you want to file a complaint because of misrepresented services. Good luck and I hope you find someelse in your life that rally makes you happy. This too shall pass.

I understand your frustration, but let me point something out to you. I go to an operator that I've known for approx. 24-27 yrs. I've brought stuff in, from time-to-time, and asked her to make my hair look like that. She told me that, because people have different hair texture and each person's hair falls differently no matter how you retrain it, she could only TRY to make it look as close to the picture as possible. I'm not taking sides here...I'm just explaining what I was told. As for your ponytail, I'm sorry. Other styles you could wear: Comb it up and wear it in a french twist. A french braid would be comfortable and could be casual or sheek for evening. They would be great do's for the Spring and Summer ahead.

First, you can't have layers and only have an inch cut off.

Second, the fact that you paid AND gave a tip, told her that you were satisfied.

On top of that, you didn't speak up when the cut didn't match the picture!

i have been in this situation before, i was told that the stylist could turn my dark hair blonde, when she didnt manage that, she said shed cut it out, i was left with a pensioners haircut!!!! (my hair was quite long) Anyway, i didnt take it any further, but i wish i had.. I would write a letter of complaint to begin with, asking for some form of compensation, if there is no response, then yes, persue it further.

u cannot sue over a haircut. what u need to do is let the salon manager know what happend, because that sylist may be doing that to other people too, so they to know. then i would ask them for a refund. and never go back

I know the feeling of not wanting to hurt the stylist's feelings though it's better to say something diplomatic like 'it's not quite what I wanted' or 'can you check to see if it's blended in on both sides' or something like that rather than leaving completely dissatisfied and unhappy. You can call the salon and talk to the stylist and/or manager about it and mention that you were sorry but you left the salon not wanting to make the hairstylist feel bad(?) They may offer to fix it or you can just let them know that you were unhappy with the results of the haircut, and go to a different salon to try to get it fixed more to your liking even if it will be shorter than you would've preferred. (I much rather prefer an evenly cut hairdo than a longer one :) It's entirely up to you though how you decide to handle it. I just always try to remain diplomatic and with a neutral tone.
