i'm black and my hair is long, thick, and sorta curly, (wavy). i'm going to the salon soon cause i'm gonna get a perm just to make my hair easier to manage, and just so that i can get a new style. so, i was wondering, what would be best, a straight perm to make my hair straighter (duh! lol) or a curly perm (like spiral curls) to make my hair bouncier and stuff. how do they do these anyway? please help!
Should i get a straight perm or a curly perm?
I think that the curlier would be better. It is very pretty and a lot of people have straight hair and say that they get bored of it. Curly would be unique

Don't get either!!
The straight perm often burns off parts of your hair and if you're unlucky you could have a bald spot. And then the Curl perm only looks good when you get it done, and then it gets frizzy.
Leave your hair natural and just straighten it. To get a perm they put chemicals all in your hair.

Straight would be sleek, pretty, and easier to handle
curly would be cool, edgy and it would make you stand out from the crowd

straight perm is easier to handle.
because once the wavy/curly perm starts to wear out, you hair will be poofy.

If your hair is quite frizzy it would probably be better to get a curl perm, getting a straight perm can Make your hair even frizzier, dry it out and make it split quite easily. So if you don't mind the curls I would go with that. Curls are geogous!
Your Hairdresser should point you ion the right direction anyways

I think that when you say "straight perm" you actually mean a relaxer. It is a common misconception that there re two types of perm - a straighter for black hair and a curler for Caucasian hair. The relaxer should be a little easier to manage because you would only need to get it every 6-8 weeks (depending on how fast your hair grows) and you should keep your hair conditioned and not use a lot of heat. You should also get regular trims to prevent split ends. Relaxers are very versatile and if you want to go curly again all you have to do is curl it or roll it up! Be sure your stylist goes over all the options, including everyday upkeep with you so that you know what you are getting into.
