im doing a hair show on monday that i have to wear all black to. THe outfit has to be like "new york" style and sophisticated. I was planning on wearing black skinny jeans with boots over then and a black cardigan on top. Ill add accesories later but i just wanted to k now if this sounded "new york" looking.

jeez. that's a bit oppressive. at my school, we stick badges on our blazers, wear jumpers underneath said blazers and wear cool, brightly coloured scarfs. we get told off a lot though. so god i don't know. get some nice tights that are gray but with a slight pattern from somewhere like tk maxx...or if you're an american, american apparel or something, i guess. i don't know much about american shops. you could get a nice necklace and wear it underneath the blouse, we're not allowed jewellary at all and i do that all the time.

For a classy/girly look, here are some items you definately should purchase:

Pearls- Later you can experiment with different colors and double strands, but for now just get some basic medium length faux pearls at Forever 21. (forever21.com)

Nice pants- try a charcoal or light grey w/ a pinstripe. These are great paired with a y top and high heels. Rampage has a fantastic selection. (rampage.com)

Basic heels- Black, pointy toed, 3 inch heels go with anything from dresses to your jeans. Put them on to transform jeans and a simple top along with some jewelry.

Femenine tops- These include babydoll necklines, anything with lace or a bow, and feminine colors. (Just not all at once!)

Forever 21 and Nordtrom are the best sources for cheap, y tops. Also look in Charlotte Russe.

Formal(Menswear style) shorts)- These are in a fabric like twill or a stiff cotton, are pin striped or herringbone, and always are short and cuffed. The best way to wear shorts- pair with a nice top(perhaps with victorian style detailing) and feminine flat sandals(not flip flops).

Look for pretty blouses, dresses, dressy shorts (think black or khaki and cuffed), dressy capris, button-downs, polo shirts often make dressy substitutes for tees. Ok....

This year I decided I needed a change before I go back to school the 22nd....

I cut my hair into choppier layers, got blonde and red highlights... and now I'm trying to improve other parts of my style...

I'm very rocker/scene but I wanna make it more so without it looking trashy or grungy like some people...

Do you have any suggestions?? Also I started using a shimmery shade of black eyeliner so it doesn't look caked on... I don't think it every did but i guess I'm maturing and I want my style to move through life with me....

Any suggestions would be GREAT- but please no negative stuff- I really want constructive criticism not smart remarks on the way I look- I know I'm not the prettiest person- I just wanna be me.

Join the club. I have really long hair as well. Although I'm not quite as short as you. I really wanted to cut it below my shoulders but seeing as i have thick, voluminous hair that wouldn't be such a good idea. I think you should stick with your long hair for a little longer. Enjoy it because in a couple of years you probably won't be under the circumstances to have it at that length. If you want something different you could try some long layers.

if it were me, i would cut it. shorter hair is much easier to manage. I think that te best length is at your shoulders or just past. there are really only 4 hairstyles with your length though. Pretty much either leave it down, braid it, put it in a ponytail, or pigtales. If you do decide to cut your hair though, I would donate it to locks of love. i did it at a fantastics sams and they cut my hair for free.

I would cut off the damaged ends (if you have any) and get layering done. Nothing dramatic, but just some face framing layers starting at about your chin. Those will frame your face and then the rest of the layers through will take the bulk out of your hair so that your length is not overwhelming, and also give it some lift and swing!

If you wear all black then it should be a shirt and nice shirt, but if its like a shirt and paints like the ones from hot topic then you are considered Gothic ( i know most of this because im in high school)

That sounds like a nice outfit, I would pair it with either dark blue jeans and some black flats or tan light brown pants with the black flats. You should do your hair curly, not beach curls but like glam curls and use hairspray to hold it while you go out at night, dont forget to accessorize with some cute gold bracelets and a hint of perfume, keep it light or some tropical body spray, good luck!

I am alot about natural beauty. I don't wear foundation cept under my eyes a bit cause i have those genetic dark cirlces. I wear mascara, eyeliner, nude gloss, pink blush, and neutral eyeshadows. When i want to go ut I sweep on black or grey for cat eye. I've been doing this look for about 4 years and now I'm 21 and completely bored with it. Tonight my boyfriend and i are going to a big party and I want to look nice but not overdone. Also I almost never style my hair. I have a bit below shoulder length hair. Help???? Thank you!

You're young, add a little bold shadow and mascara to play up your eyes. If you add some sparkle to your face in a powder form or an irideccent finish somehow, I've seen products from Benefit %26amp; MAC that are pretty cool. As for your hair, if you have layers, go piecey and add some of that gel that separates and lifts them so it looks styled but adds a little structure. You won't look overdone; just have some fun with your make up...again, you're young...enjoy your youthful beauty!

go for color! raid cvs or rite aid and check out the eyeshadows- you can get those packs with 4 different colors in it that all go together. go lighter on the inside of the eye and up towards the brows and then the darker shades in the crease and on the outside of the eye lid. plus you can always browse the magazines for ideas...don't be afraid to experiment- if it looks funky, you can always wash it off and start over! if you're doing mega-eye makeup then i'd leave the rest pretty basic...or you could always do up the lips and leave the eyes more toned down (though personally i'm not a big fan of lipstick and lipliner and all that)...just remember too much of everything is overkill!

as for hair, maybe curling or straightening it (depending on what your hair is like naturally)? try out the opposite of whatever your hair is normally like...

Look for "bloody mary" all in one goth makeup kit. or go to Sephora or Ulta, they have the best selections.

Get a hair straightener. Theres so many different hair styles. My advice on this is go to borders or barnes and look at the UK hair magazines for ideas.

Go to those makeup ladies int eh stores. Trust me! They can help wonders! They can find dark lipstick to math your tone and for the curly hair use a chinese operm. It stays in for 6 months! Long enough not to annoy you and short enough to feel the relief of that curly hair! :)

I guess it depends on the crowd and the people that you associate with a lot of guys in my area (northern san diego) have fade haircuts, even if they're not african-americans and no one has a problem with it, the barbers make more money so they can't complain..

I personally like fades because it makes the guy look cleaner and my first impression of someone who has a fade/nice hair cut is that they care about themselves..

If you have the matching long thin sideburns (connecting to the goatee even worse, Jon B!!)......maybe a wigga. But if you keep it clean short side burns or no sideburns, it just looks clean.

I wear the same haircut, but I get mine at the Rican/Dominican barber, their fade is different, same technique but the fade starts lower at the temple and goes up at an angle towards the back of the head. So it doesn't look like you have a block head or a gumby.

I think you need to spend less time worrying about your haircut and get a hobby. I would recomend partaking in activities such as: long walks on the beach, bird watching, and getting a gun with a bullet and ending yourself so I dont need to read another dumb question again.

I have a black dress and a white clutch and white heels.

I have brown medium length hair, brown eyes, I have a bit of a round face and I wear glasses.

I really want to look nice since this is going to be the first dance I go to..

Okay. I have dark brown hair, which was dyed blood red four months ago, so it's a mix of brown and red now, auburn perhaps... Anywho, I'm looking for some eyeliner styles that would give a very dramatic effect. I already know that I am going to be using black eyeliner. If you feel gracious, then you could also add in some eyeshadow styles, too.

Oh yeah, I should say, I have an almond shaped eye and a fairly round face. Even though I'm only 1/6 native american, it's very apparent in my face.

Also, I can use either liquid or pencil eyeliner, in case the style needs a certain kind to work better. ((I'm more apt to use pencil, but it doesn't really matter.))

I'd like help as fast as possible. I'd prefer it if I got it before 3 p.m. pacific time tomorrow. Thanks a ton!

Check Maybeline- they have this eyeshadow (New Formula)that tells you how to apply it for different looks. The container has 4 different shades and on the shade it has written on it where to apply it- like "brow bone" or "crease", "lid" and "corner". I went with the smokey eye colors (color 22- Chai Latte).. they have green too. I absolutely love it. And I bought an eyeliner shadow by Mabelline (color 40-night sky) and an eyeliner eye brush.. it is a bristle brush and the bristles are cut into a slant. Find it.. You can smoke it or make a fine line or do anything with it.. I used to have the liquid eye liner but now I will never go back to anything else.

Good luck! Oh and do try L'Oreal's Bare Natural Gentle Mineral blush and there is also a mineral powdered foundation too!! Get a gloss in a tube and you are set! Oh and THE best mascara is L'Oreal- Full Definition Voluminous. No clumping just sheer length and it is natural looking. I am all about natural, yet hints of glam and dram.

I would use a liquid black eyeliner on the top part of your eye and a black pencil on the bottom, because even though I like using liquid eyeliner its much easier to use a pencil especially on the bottom of your eye. For eye shadow try a neutral color or something that complements your eyes.

my favorite "dramatic" eyeliner is stila's "smudge pot." it is a creamy gel that is applied with a double-ended brush; one side is for drawing the line, the other is for smudging (it's a bit bigger). it's extremely easy to put on, and it smudges oh so nicely. as of right now, it's my favorite liner/shadow.

I have no specific answer for you, yet if I have questions like this, I go for free make overs from mary kay, merle norman, jafra, who-ever, matters not. they are experts on how to do make up, yea they want to sell stuff yet they want to help too, many will come to your house, some you can go to classes so you can remain anonymous... I work in a Salon and a couple of the techs do make up, they are not selling anything but their expertise, call around in your area, see how much they charge.

hey. i'm getting pretty bored with my style and stuff and i really want to do something different with my hair and/or makeup. on june 12th i'm getting the under-part or my hair bleached, then dyed blue. when the blue fades i'm going to bleach my whole head to a dirty blonde-ish.

the hair thing sounds fun but make sure to do some extra nice stuff for your hair to repair all the bleach damage. The tatoo girl is too much and i just don't like that look, hell, i'm old.
