I'm a male and just turned sixteen last week.
My parents lately have been really upset with me because of my hair. It's naturally black and I let it grow out a little. I got the upper back cut short so i could stick it up a little.
They insist that i get another haircut and if i dont then they wont help me pay for a new computer, car, or help with college. Btw my computer is lagging while im typing this, pretty sad. When i ask them why they want me to change my hair they always respond with something along the lines of, "we never see anyone else with hair like that." They say I'm a disgrace/embarassment to the family. I don't understand, it's not like im a criminal or a drug addict.
Is it wrong to want to look different? Theyve been bothered by the way i dress and style my hair since the 4th grade.
anyways, here are some pictures

Problems with the parentals, any advice? Like Dear Abby would say... your parents are squandering their authority on something as petty as a haircut.
A good parent is very picky about what to do battle over... and should work towards instilling respect instead of pushing the kids away over something small like that. It is a basic emo type style... a fashion throwback to the 80s.
A good parent would allow for small style experiments like that as long as you are staying out of trouble and doing well in school.
At 16, you should be able to get a part-time job. If you find that the haircut is getting in your way, you may have to alter it.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? If you're living at home then you should do what your parents say until you are able to afford your own place and make your own rules. You won't be 16 forever and then you can do what you like but for now, keep the parents sweet, do what they ask (I'm sure they have a good reason) and things will be cool at home again.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? OMG cut it.. you EMO fool.... why must you have hair as depressing as the music you listen to?
Problems with the parentals, any advice? You have to choose, new computer or hair style. When you live on your own, you can wear your hair any way you want. However you also have to pay for your own computer. Don't make this a big deal.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Your hair looks stupid. I wouldn't want my kid to have that kind of hair, either. Just cut your hair and when you move outta their house, do what you want.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? yea dude you look gay. i agree with your parents
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Listen to your parents. They're doing you a favor, dude.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? no offense but thts scary and u look tired and ur hot
Problems with the parentals, any advice? You look like a freak, listen to them and cut your hair emo kid
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Do what you want. you're old enough to make your own decisions.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? yea ..thats a really ugly hair cut...go with what your parents told you...
Problems with the parentals, any advice? it looks fine. just tell them this is the way i like ait and ill never be a criminal and do stuff like that so there is no need to worry. i always see kids with that hair cut
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Your parents are trying to do what's best for you. People will judge you by the way they look. You look like a troubling making thug. Do what your parents say.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? You look ok to me.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? ignore them. nothing is wrong with being different, just be what you want.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? just tell yer parents that you thought ppl weren't suppose to judge ppl on there looks and that there being a little childish to not be helping with things that could effect your enitre future like college.
like the hair cut btw
Problems with the parentals, any advice? you have to decide. what's more important: a hair do, or them helping you buy stuff.
all they want is for you to look normal. save the expression thing for something less dramatic, or wait til you're 18.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? are you emo? or goth? casue if not, then you might wnat to get your hair cut. the style right now is medium length hair (for boys) thats a bit long if u ask me. try getting it cut shorter.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? By the looks of the pictures they prolly think your goth/emo which everyone seems to think that goth/emos are evil punks. But i've actually met a cople nice goths.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? You look fine and I agree that you should do what you want to with you hair.....however, if you want them to pay for anything, you will have to suck it up and make tha changes to something slightly more appropriate.....it isn't 'fair' but they control the money. Either keep it and suffer or keep it and get a job asap, or change it until they pay for the things you need, then go back to it when you are older if you still want to.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? That looks like a normal haircut to me =]. I have a couple friends who have their hair like that. In the end, you just need to decide whether you want your individuality... or materialistic things.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Ok well no offensive or anything but in those pics you look kinda emoish and i dont know if you watch news or anything but they've been saying how emo's cut themself and all this so maybe they are worried b/c of that. Either way maybe you should sit down and see if you couldnt get them to explain why its a problem for them besides them being embrassed. Then maybe you should tell them your side of it ... keep in mind that it could be worse like you doing drugs and such (might wanna remind them of that ) At least you found another way to express yourself. I started to ramble a bit sorry i hope this helped at least a lil .
Problems with the parentals, any advice? your hairstyle is cool to what is in fashion now for your age. Your parents dont undestand and they dont like it because they think that you are protraying something towards other people about you and your family. About 1-5 people where i am from have different hair or style and its not a big deal. Where you live, maybe people are a bit conservative. You will grow out of your hair fashion when you get older, and causing a big ruckous right now is just hurting you and the relationship of your family. Because of hair? Im sure they taught you to judge others not my their appearance but their character and now they are being hypocrits. This at some point will end, and im sure they will not take away certain privledges..(they never do) Just dont let it effect you and your family because that kind of judgement leads to some pretty nasty family dynamics later on.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Personally, I like it and think that it's your hair and you should be able to express yourself however you want. I think your parents are looking at the bigger picture tho, as much as I hate to admit it. If you were to go apply for a job, little things like that might hold you back. It sucks and sounds so wrong, but it's true. Society looks at you differently for all the wrong reasons.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? As a mom, I'd want you to get a haircut too. I understand the whole I want to wear my hair the way I want thing - but it sounds like your parents are paying for things for you right now. You can grow your hair how you want when you're 18 and can move out of your house.
Parents feel when they are paying for things - that you have to do something for them. As you get older, you'll get a job, go to college, etc - and people won't look at your hair as being cute - they look at you like a young adult who they'd like to be responsible. I'm not saying you're not - but alot of things are based on perception and first impression.
As much as you don't like what you're parents are saying - they really think they're doing the right thing for you.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? yup looks weird to me
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Ok emo kid they are right you have a hardcore emo haircut and you are complaining about stuff they are giving you for FREE why not just get your hair cut and get all the things you want what you don't get is YOUR IN DEBT TO THEM so just play there game and get a haircut.
And no your not trying to look different you have the exact same haircut of every other emo kid in the world. They say they have never seen a kid with hair like that because the style is new but i gotta hand it to you i wish i knew how to do that to my hair.
But long story short get it cut get the stuff move out when your 18 or go to collage and grow it back out.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? I'm a older parent and I looked at all your pics. I think it's real cute. I like it a lot. BUT..... I'm not YOUR parent. I say cut it. If they help you out financially and you want them to continue, cut the hair. Unless you can convince them to change their minds! What are the chances of that? Maybe you could get them to compromise. Offer something else?! How about just changing the style and keeping the cut? Good luck.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Show them your posted question, and the resulting responses they may understand.
Be yourself - but you should also honor your parents wishes.
I have 4 teenagers and they at time stretch my limits, but I do not make a big deal out of their appearances
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Why dont you try talking to your parents and explaning why you want your hair/cloths like it is and mabye they will give you an answer.
If you dont feel like you can talk to your parents I sugest cutting your hair into a new style and messing about with it... Its only hair and its always good for a change and at least then it would be out of your eyes. Theres hundreads of stuff you can do to your hair.
Some parents try to hold onto there child and this can come out in unusial ways such as controling... Im sure your parents only want the best for you and to "fit in" or somthing along those lines... But I think you need to just sit down and talk to them because it shows how Adult you are rather than thorwing your toys out the pram and getting in a mood.
Problems with the parentals, any advice? Cut your hair, dude. They are your source, and "beggers can't be choosers".
It'll grow back when you can support your self, and no longe depend on their approval. By thin you'll agree with them about hair length anyway.
Teens who know so much more than their parents, usually are shocked how much the parents learn in the decade between when you are 15 and 25.
Respect, honor, love and obey your parents, ALWAYS, unless they are trying to force you to oppose God, which would send you to hell!!
THAT is "the unforgiveable sin".
Obey God #1
HE commands that we honor our parents.
Don't they deserve props???
God deserves obedience (and He comands this)!!!
It's only hair, dude! Chill, man!!
You're not having to cut off your ****!!!!
