I need ideas for an outfit...?

im doing a hair show on monday that i have to wear all black to. THe outfit has to be like "new york" style and sophisticated. I was planning on wearing black skinny jeans with boots over then and a black cardigan on top. Ill add accesories later but i just wanted to k now if this sounded "new york" looking.

okay, so these are the rules for my uniform.

Gosh! your school is strict! no rules about belts though, right? check with the school to see if it's alright. or be bold if you're sure about the rules and wear a cute, colorful belt.

jeez. that's a bit oppressive. at my school, we stick badges on our blazers, wear jumpers underneath said blazers and wear cool, brightly coloured scarfs. we get told off a lot though. so god i don't know. get some nice tights that are gray but with a slight pattern from somewhere like tk maxx...or if you're an american, american apparel or something, i guess. i don't know much about american shops. you could get a nice necklace and wear it underneath the blouse, we're not allowed jewellary at all and i do that all the time.

what about coats?

i think you'll have trouble trying to get round that ridiculous set of rules though. god, i'm glad i don't go to your school.

I have a lot of t-shirts, pants, flats, tennis shoes,shorts,ect. But I want a more classy/girly look. I dont want to spend a whole lot of money, but I also want to look more mature. I look good in white, black , and red. I am a brunette w/ beige skin. I have curves and like to straighten and curl my hair. Could you give me some links to stores that would fit my style. For a classy/girly look, here are some items you definately should purchase:

Pearls- Later you can experiment with different colors and double strands, but for now just get some basic medium length faux pearls at Forever 21. (forever21.com)

Nice pants- try a charcoal or light grey w/ a pinstripe. These are great paired with a y top and high heels. Rampage has a fantastic selection. (rampage.com)

Basic heels- Black, pointy toed, 3 inch heels go with anything from dresses to your jeans. Put them on to transform jeans and a simple top along with some jewelry.

Femenine tops- These include babydoll necklines, anything with lace or a bow, and feminine colors. (Just not all at once!)

Forever 21 and Nordtrom are the best sources for cheap, y tops. Also look in Charlotte Russe.

Formal(Menswear style) shorts)- These are in a fabric like twill or a stiff cotton, are pin striped or herringbone, and always are short and cuffed. The best way to wear shorts- pair with a nice top(perhaps with victorian style detailing) and feminine flat sandals(not flip flops).

Other neccessities include:

A bubble skirt

A few fitted cardigans

A fitted, cropped sleeve blazer(not too buisnessy)

Styling Tips- For a classic meets y look, streamline a feminine piece (ie: a lacy babydoll top) with more classic pieces( straight legged black pants and pointy toe heels), then finish off your look with moderately feminine accessories (ie: pale pink pearls and a large tail ring). The other way to go y is to spice up a classic outfit ( off white boatneck sweater with 3/4 sleeves and cuffed formal shorts) with y accessories( such as chandelier earrings and lots of bangles).

I'd definitely look into shops like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and Wet Seal. Look for pretty blouses, dresses, dressy shorts (think black or khaki and cuffed), dressy capris, button-downs, polo shirts often make dressy substitutes for tees. Maybe try switching your favorite dressy flats for a pair of kitten heels.

Ok....

This year I decided I needed a change before I go back to school the 22nd....

I cut my hair into choppier layers, got blonde and red highlights... and now I'm trying to improve other parts of my style...

I'm very rocker/scene but I wanna make it more so without it looking trashy or grungy like some people...

Do you have any suggestions?? Also I started using a shimmery shade of black eyeliner so it doesn't look caked on... I don't think it every did but i guess I'm maturing and I want my style to move through life with me....

Any suggestions would be GREAT- but please no negative stuff- I really want constructive criticism not smart remarks on the way I look- I know I'm not the prettiest person- I just wanna be me.

not necesarily caked on, but heavy. i suggest that you lighten up on it a bit. the more natural looking the better. also i think you should get some different colors in your hair. maybe some more low-lights to emphisise on your layers.

(sry no pics XP) in the first pic. it looks like you have ALOT of eyeliner on. try just a wisk of mascara on ur top lashes. just like 2 brushes every morning [bring it to school if you have to . just a little bit at a time]. it will make your eyes stand out but it wont look like you layered it layer after layer(sorry if this is upsetting you its not supposed to.lmao)

Join the club. I have really long hair as well. Although I'm not quite as short as you. I really wanted to cut it below my shoulders but seeing as i have thick, voluminous hair that wouldn't be such a good idea. I think you should stick with your long hair for a little longer. Enjoy it because in a couple of years you probably won't be under the circumstances to have it at that length. If you want something different you could try some long layers.

Get your hair trimmed and from there look for hairstyles that use your length of hair. Go to the professional hair care websites like Nexus, John Frieda and etc. They have sections for hairstyles.

Also, check out Youtube.com many people talk about hair in their videos and have "how to-s" on creating hair styles. My fav is FordModels. Each week or so they put out different videos about fashion and hair dos that you can watch.

if it were me, i would cut it. shorter hair is much easier to manage. I think that te best length is at your shoulders or just past. there are really only 4 hairstyles with your length though. Pretty much either leave it down, braid it, put it in a ponytail, or pigtales. If you do decide to cut your hair though, I would donate it to locks of love. i did it at a fantastics sams and they cut my hair for free.

I would cut off the damaged ends (if you have any) and get layering done. Nothing dramatic, but just some face framing layers starting at about your chin. Those will frame your face and then the rest of the layers through will take the bulk out of your hair so that your length is not overwhelming, and also give it some lift and swing!

I am not African American, but a nice hairdo might be small dreadlocks (not thick!) and put it back into a pony tail. I have seen this before and I really like it. Firstly, I truly believe fashion varies for all people, some people look better in certain colors, styles, etc. Secondly it's about expression. That said, I'm curious what thrills/irks you in what other people wear? So I expect some varying opinions. What do you think of 80's hair? socks and sandals? mohawks? long sleeved shirts and shorts? turtlenecks? All Black? Bling? etc. etc. etc.

For sweaters some cropped or shrugs look really nice

jeans look good with sparkles.(a nice belt will go good if your shirts are long)

jewlry depends on what you're wearing.

For colors it has to match. baby-blue and black pink black. Dont try to wear purple and yellow.--or something like that. if you're not matching the only excuse is "it was a dare."

I love people-watching and looking at street style. Far more interesting than paging through Vogue! I love seeing people take traditional, basic pieces and wear them in an entirely new way. There is a lot to be said for having a lot of solid pieces in your wardrobe and adding on with trendy accessories.

What irks me is when people wear things that don't fit, either their body or the situation. That is one thing about personal style - knowing what fits you best. There are certain cuts that may or may not look good on a given body type. The trick is find what is flattering and stick to that.

Well socks and sand sandals are way out of style, unless its Velcro sandals like Addis , Mohawks are in too, only if you can pull it off. im not sure about long sleeved shirts and shorts but long sleeved shirts and mini denim skirts are in. If you wear all black then it should be a shirt and nice shirt, but if its like a shirt and paints like the ones from hot topic then you are considered Gothic ( i know most of this because im in high school)

That sounds like a nice outfit, I would pair it with either dark blue jeans and some black flats or tan light brown pants with the black flats. You should do your hair curly, not beach curls but like glam curls and use hairspray to hold it while you go out at night, dont forget to accessorize with some cute gold bracelets and a hint of perfume, keep it light or some tropical body spray, good luck!

I am alot about natural beauty. I don't wear foundation cept under my eyes a bit cause i have those genetic dark cirlces. I wear mascara, eyeliner, nude gloss, pink blush, and neutral eyeshadows. When i want to go ut I sweep on black or grey for cat eye. I've been doing this look for about 4 years and now I'm 21 and completely bored with it. Tonight my boyfriend and i are going to a big party and I want to look nice but not overdone. Also I almost never style my hair. I have a bit below shoulder length hair. Help???? Thank you!

You're young, add a little bold shadow and mascara to play up your eyes. If you add some sparkle to your face in a powder form or an irideccent finish somehow, I've seen products from Benefit %26amp; MAC that are pretty cool. As for your hair, if you have layers, go piecey and add some of that gel that separates and lifts them so it looks styled but adds a little structure. You won't look overdone; just have some fun with your make up...again, you're young...enjoy your youthful beauty!

go for color! raid cvs or rite aid and check out the eyeshadows- you can get those packs with 4 different colors in it that all go together. go lighter on the inside of the eye and up towards the brows and then the darker shades in the crease and on the outside of the eye lid. plus you can always browse the magazines for ideas...don't be afraid to experiment- if it looks funky, you can always wash it off and start over! if you're doing mega-eye makeup then i'd leave the rest pretty basic...or you could always do up the lips and leave the eyes more toned down (though personally i'm not a big fan of lipstick and lipliner and all that)...just remember too much of everything is overkill!

as for hair, maybe curling or straightening it (depending on what your hair is like naturally)? try out the opposite of whatever your hair is normally like...

Look for "bloody mary" all in one goth makeup kit. or go to Sephora or Ulta, they have the best selections.

Go to those makeup ladies int eh stores. Trust me! They can help wonders! They can find dark lipstick to math your tone and for the curly hair use a chinese operm. It stays in for 6 months! Long enough not to annoy you and short enough to feel the relief of that curly hair! :)

I guess it depends on the crowd and the people that you associate with a lot of guys in my area (northern san diego) have fade haircuts, even if they're not african-americans and no one has a problem with it, the barbers make more money so they can't complain..

If you have the matching long thin sideburns (connecting to the goatee even worse, Jon B!!)......maybe a wigga. But if you keep it clean short side burns or no sideburns, it just looks clean.

I wear the same haircut, but I get mine at the Rican/Dominican barber, their fade is different, same technique but the fade starts lower at the temple and goes up at an angle towards the back of the head. So it doesn't look like you have a block head or a gumby.

Okay. I have dark brown hair, which was dyed blood red four months ago, so it's a mix of brown and red now, auburn perhaps... Anywho, I'm looking for some eyeliner styles that would give a very dramatic effect. I already know that I am going to be using black eyeliner. If you feel gracious, then you could also add in some eyeshadow styles, too.

Oh yeah, I should say, I have an almond shaped eye and a fairly round face. Even though I'm only 1/6 native american, it's very apparent in my face.

Also, I can use either liquid or pencil eyeliner, in case the style needs a certain kind to work better. ((I'm more apt to use pencil, but it doesn't really matter.))

Check Maybeline- they have this eyeshadow (New Formula)that tells you how to apply it for different looks. The container has 4 different shades and on the shade it has written on it where to apply it- like "brow bone" or "crease", "lid" and "corner". I went with the smokey eye colors (color 22- Chai Latte).. they have green too. I absolutely love it. And I bought an eyeliner shadow by Mabelline (color 40-night sky) and an eyeliner eye brush.. it is a bristle brush and the bristles are cut into a slant. Find it.. You can smoke it or make a fine line or do anything with it.. I used to have the liquid eye liner but now I will never go back to anything else.

Good luck! Oh and do try L'Oreal's Bare Natural Gentle Mineral blush and there is also a mineral powdered foundation too!! Get a gloss in a tube and you are set! Oh and THE best mascara is L'Oreal- Full Definition Voluminous. No clumping just sheer length and it is natural looking. I am all about natural, yet hints of glam and dram.

I would use a liquid black eyeliner on the top part of your eye and a black pencil on the bottom, because even though I like using liquid eyeliner its much easier to use a pencil especially on the bottom of your eye. For eye shadow try a neutral color or something that complements your eyes.

my favorite "dramatic" eyeliner is stila's "smudge pot." it is a creamy gel that is applied with a double-ended brush; one side is for drawing the line, the other is for smudging (it's a bit bigger). it's extremely easy to put on, and it smudges oh so nicely. as of right now, it's my favorite liner/shadow.

I have no specific answer for you, yet if I have questions like this, I go for free make overs from mary kay, merle norman, jafra, who-ever, matters not. they are experts on how to do make up, yea they want to sell stuff yet they want to help too, many will come to your house, some you can go to classes so you can remain anonymous... I work in a Salon and a couple of the techs do make up, they are not selling anything but their expertise, call around in your area, see how much they charge.

ok i am kinda pale with pinkish undertones but i also end up tanning quite a bit, i am about 5'7'' and on the thin side, i used to have really light brown hair but now its medium brown but the bottom is like blonde (due to highlightgs from awhile back and the sun), i have like golden/amber/brown almond eyes and black eyelashes and eyebrows, i have a kinda long oval/somewhat heart shaped face. I want to either go lighter (like more highlights or blonde hair) or dye my hair darker (like a dark brown or black) but i want to know what will look best. also right now i have thick long hair and want to keep it long (not short cuz it puffs out) but im thinking i want bangs or some kind of style, what style would play up my eyes but take attention away from my nose (b/c its somewhat prominent) (i want bangs /haircut that wont draw attention to my nose or make my face look longer and skinnier) thanks for helping :)

Nothing says that a girl with dark hair and light eyes can't wear black. Put it on and look at yourself in it, does it look good on you? If it does, go for it. It's cute. I really think the white would look better. Or you could buy the black one and trade for her white one, that way you have the same sweatshirt in different colors and both look better since the color would compliment your colors better. You see, if you tend to be blonde or fair skinned you can't pull off colors like pastels or lighter neutrals. And if your darker skinned and/or have dark hair like brown or black, then lighter colors will look better on you. So go for colors in the opposite of your natural look; light skin or hair- darker colors, dark skin or hair- lighter colors. It's all in the way you put yourself out there and make a statement!

Show the pictures to a color specalist, and they'll be able to help you acheive a look that is like that, but tailored for you, too. Never try to bleach hair on your own, it rarely ends well.

Should I get braids or a weave or a partial weave?

I can't decide. I've heard that if you get sewn in extensions that you can't put your hair up in a ponytail, because the cornrow would show. Braids take so long and I'm not sure if they would fit my style. I have heard good things about microbraids, but heard they take a really long time. I also had braids way back I remember that they felt like sleeping on a rug. But, I had bigger braids in. I like the ideal of being able to wear a ponytail though. I hate to always have to get up and do my hair. That leads me to worry about getting extensions. Will partial be less up keep? Also, can I have a color different than my hair color put in for braids that will look like one solid color; my hair is black. Can I do the same with a weave? I don't mind having the bottom black and the top honey brown w/highlights or something a little funky like that for a partial weave.

I wear wigs now and I'm sick of taking my hair off at night. I'm trying to just grow back my hair.

It all depends on what condition your hair is in. If your hair isnt too damaged braids would be a great option if they arent done too tight. Make sure to have a consultation with a braider and they understand your concerns.

A partial weave would be a great option also. The overall question is finding someone that understands what you want and they want to help you maintain HEALTHY HAIR...style isnt everything if its damaging your hair.

for me, it doesn't matter if you have microbraids or weave it depends on where did u go to get your hair done. I have microbraids right now and I play basketball. it is much easier for me to take care of it. If you don't play any sports you can have weave and actually some people glue it wich I think its much easier for ur ponytail. I hope I help

I'm a male and just turned sixteen last week.

My parents lately have been really upset with me because of my hair. It's naturally black and I let it grow out a little. I got the upper back cut short so i could stick it up a little.

They insist that i get another haircut and if i dont then they wont help me pay for a new computer, car, or help with college. Btw my computer is lagging while im typing this, pretty sad. When i ask them why they want me to change my hair they always respond with something along the lines of, "we never see anyone else with hair like that."
